7 Hotels You Should Visit

The Wigwam Motel is a legendary pit-stop on America’s Route 66. So much so, that it inspired Disney Pixar to feature it’s own ‘Cozy Cone Motel’ in the movie ‘Cars‘. It is a comfortable hotel conveniently located near the center of Rialto. Built within the city limits of San Bernardino in 1949, the motel’s 19 wigwams make up their own mini village which welcome weary road trippers looking for somewhere a little different to rest up.
Dining facilities at Wigwam Motel Route 66 include a cafeteria. Other hotel amenities include gift shop/newsstand. Leisure amenities: There is an outdoor swimming pool at the hotel. Business/Internet: The following Internet options are available at the hotel: high-speed wired access, high-speed wireless access are complimentary. From the country that’s home to some of the ‘worlds weirdest hotels’ comes the latest in luxury tourist attractions: The Mirrorcube. Located 60 kilometres south of the Arctic circle, in Harads, Sweden, this stunning hide-out, designed by Tham & Videgard architects, is made of light-weight aluminum which is hung around the base of a single tree.
The Mirrorcube is an exciting hide-out among the trees, camouflaged by mirrored walls that reflect their surroundings. The dimensions are 4x4x4 metres. The base consists of an aluminum frame around the tree trunk and the walls are covered with reflective glass. The windows offer 360 degree views, but to prevent birds from flying into them, an infrared film, visible only to birds, is laminated into the glass panels. The six windows provide a stunning panoramic view. The Mirrorcube offers excellent accommodation for two people with a double bed, bathroom, lounge, and rooftop terrace. A 12-meter-long bridge leads up to the treeroom.
If Sweden’s not your thing, you can have your own Mirrorcube delivered and constructed at your desired destination.

Giraffe Manor is one of Nairobi’s most iconic historical buildings dating back to the 1930s and is reminiscent of the early days of Europeans in East Africa. Whilst the building itself resonates with the past, very much present is the herd of eight resident Rothschild giraffe who tend to visit the Manor in the mornings and evenings to greet guests and sniff out some snacks before venturing out into their sanctuary of 140 acres.
It is the only place in the world where you can feed and photograph the giraffe over your breakfast table and at the front door, and even from a bedroom window.
Travellers from all over the world now make The Giraffe Manor part of their East African Safari. Some spend a week here and The Giraffe Manor has many repeat guests, who have become old friends. Personally hosted, The Giraffe Manor is an elegant and exclusive small hotel with a rich blend of welcoming accommodation, highly trained staff and one of Nairobi’s finest kitchens.
The Giraffe Manor also offers a uniquely untouched wilderness on the doorstep of one of Africa’s most cosmopolitan cities, the adjoining Jock Leslie-Melville Nature Education Centre, better known as the Giraffe Centre. Guided walks through its primeval forest enable you to learn about traditional uses of the varied flora, view some of the 180 bird species and perhaps meet a warthog or bushbuck.

If you’re planning a far eastern adventure, then be sure to include a visit to one of Tokyo’s many capsule hotels – one of our favourites is the Riverside Capsule Hotel in Asakusa district. With 719 hotel style properties to choose from, Capsule Hotel Asakusa River Side is an attractive choice. A uniquely Japanese experience, capsule hotels are inspired by the pursuit of efficiency of space and functional comfort – which basically means you won’t have room to swing a cat!
But don’t let that put you off! We’ll admit that the capsules do resemble human-sized microwaves, but these futuristic, tube-like compartments are actually pretty comfortable. Accommodation is arranged dormitory style, but female travellers needn’t worry! The Riverside Capsule Hotel offers a ladies only floor, which means you won’t have to put up with any snoring from the encapsulated male guests.
Capsule Hotel Asakusa River Side is a suitable choice for short visits to Tokyo with comfortable rooms and all the basic facilities you require for a quick trip.

Ever spent much time wondering what goes on inside a sewer pipe? Probably not! But, if you did, I bet you wouldn’t imagine this – people fast asleep! In Austria’s Ottensheim region, you will find Das Park Hotel – three former sewer pipes situated on the banks of the Danube. The beauty of these pipes is that their concrete utilitarian look needs little alteration to make them habitable – a coat of varnish is all that is necessary. The tubes have also have received wall paintings by the Austrian artist Thomas Latzel Ochoa to make them seem a little more user friendly.
Like cave hotels, Das Park Hotel is fairly cool in the summer, and perhaps still warm in winter, although at the moment the hotel is only open from May to October.
These pipes offer all the comforts of your own bedroom – full headroom, double bed, storage, light, power, blanket and light cotton sleeping bag. Life’s other necessities – loo, showers, mini-bar and cafĂ© are just a short stride away!
So do something new and make yourself a more interesting person!

If you’re into all things Middle Earth, then a stay at The Hobbit Motel is sure to appeal. Don’t worry if you’re not 3 foot tall with hairy feet, everyone is welcome at the Hobbit Motel. The strange little building with porthole-style windows is built into the side of a hill in Waitomo, a region on the North Island known for its caves and waterfalls.
From the outside, the two self-contained, underground ‘Hobbits’ look like they have come straight from Tolkien’s Middle-earth! Yet on the inside, they offer surprisingly modern and comfortable accommodation for up to six people. Replicating rabbit holes, the guest rooms are built into the side of a hill. Each of the two units has round doors and windows and specially designed furniture.

This unusual motel was built using polystyrene blocks, keeping it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This, coupled with the range of activities available at Woodlyn Park, make it a great holiday destination all year round.
In fact, it’s the perfect place in which to spend a ‘little’ time in New Zealand!
Woodlyn Park doesn’t just offer amazing motels. There’s a whole host of adventures to be had during your stay.
Billy Black is a professional sheep shearer who puts on an unforgettable show for Woodlyn Park guests.
And, if you still have energy left, why not visit the nearby Waitomo Caves, an amazing cave system with stalactites, stalagmites and even glowworms! Along with the opportunity to try blackwater rafting and take in the breathtaking views for which New Zealand is famous, we really don’t think one could ask for more!
